u3a Lostwithiel Birdwatching Calendar Sept 2025 - August 2026

The calendar below is the proposed calendar for our next season of  field trips. Though primarily we began as a bird watching group we have in reality evolved into taking an interest in all wildlife we come across from mammals, insects and butterflies to plants and fungi.

You do not need to be an expert, all are welcome and if you enjoy photography do bring your camera.

This calendar can be subject to change depending on weather and local conditions. Always check the web site beforehand and emails for details, usually a couple of weeks prior to event. If unsure please email one of the group contacts.

Hi all,

Below is the calendar for the new year 25-26 as decided at our annual Planning meeting held in Coulson park in Lostwithiel in August along with our walk and fish and chip supper. We have held our first 2 meetings of this year now at Par in Sept and then Old town cove in Oct with the former yielding 28 bird species and the latter 36 and on both saw other species such as Roe deer, fungi, damsel and dragon flies as well as seasonal flora.
Our  trip to Bude  on Nov 12th to be led by Dave G. had to sadly be cancelled due to a weather warning for snow and ice.
7 of the group took off to Dorset for 2 days and the weather gods were kind to us especially on the Tuesday. Monday we explored Lodmore and Radipole and clocked 47 species in total but couldn't find the bearded tits unfortunately. We enjoyed a convivial meal together in the Weymouth seafront Premier inn. Tuesday we headed off to Portland Bill first in search of Little Owls - we found the Quarry but no owls! Did clock  20 species of birds plus a red admiral butterfly. We then headed off to Chisel Beach where we found 12 species in total. A very successful 2 days in great company - some 65 individual species encountered

Chisel Beach                                                                                  Radipole

Our next trip on the 10th December is to Enfield Park in Camelford and then the Murmurations at Davidstow. Trip sheet loaded.
