If you like a blast of fresh air you missed out on this one - we had a lovely, refreshing field trip to Gwithian. The surf was up, as was the breeze, and the sun shone intermittently.

We made it to the cafe for coffee and cake, then made our descent to see the waterfall, it didn’t disappoint.

Field trip to Caerhays Estate - Thursday 28th April 2022

Caerhays has always been a firm favourite of this group and once again it did not disappoint. The gardens were looking magnificent and the warm gentle sunshine made for great photographic conditions.

Field trip to Readymoney Cove and Fowey - Thursday 24th March 2022

Another bright sunny day for a field trip! The welcome early Spring sunshine joined us on a wander around Fowey, expertly led by David and Maggie Blake. Our thanks to them for showing us parts of Fowey we had never visited and giving us some great history snippets along the way.

Field trip to Polzeath Beach - Thursday 17th February 2022

How lucky were we with the weather today? We fitted in a Field Trip between Dudley and Eunice!
Sue, who kindly led the Field Trip, says "The walk along the coastal path was really enjoyable and so nice to share with members who didn't know the area. We do plan to return when the light is better too".

Field trip to Polzeath and Greenaway rocks - Thursday 27th January 2022

Six intrepid photographers braved the driving Cornish drizzle to explore the photographic opportunities of Pentire Glaze Haven, the cove next to Polzeath Beach. After an hour of photography and sheltering within the rocks most of the group were forced to seek sustenance at the local farm shop! However, there is such a variety of possible images that we all agreed that we'd like to return next month (Doc Martin is filming in Port Isaac).

Field trip to Looe - Thursday 25th November 2021

A sunny, if chilly, day saw 8 of us gather at Looe for a lovely walk along to East Looe from Hannafore. There was a huge range of subject matter available as can be seen from the images below!

Field trip to Respryn - Thursday 28th October 2021

Report from Jasmina "Well if you go down to the woods today you are sure of a big surprise!! A group of intrepid photographers defied the weather forecast days before Halloween and met up in Respryn carpark where we were rewarded with a good two hours of dry be it dank weather to enjoy our walk through the woods. The leaves hadn't fully turned but my goodness the fungi didn't disappoint and there was plenty else to photograph. Our challenge this month was to capture autumn with a macro. However the big surprise was to come by at the river with two ghosts who transformed into two pumpkin heads. Thanks to Emma and Crystal for a real surprise - we loved your twist on our visit to the woods.... We just made it back to the cars before the rain deluged us and some of us headed off to to Stable Art for lunch and a good old catch up...."

Field trip to Trevone - Thursday 23rd September 2021

Thursday 23rd the start of our journey. Six in total, we had a lovely day and even the Cornish mizzle couldn’t dampen our spirits. We started by going to the beach, at which stage Linda left us as dogs are not allowed on beach.  There were small waves, but most interesting were the rocks - so bright in colour l think because they were wet. We stayed on the beach quite some time mooching about the rocks. Then we went up to see the round hole and quarry. Lunch was at the cafe where the beef burgers looked really good. We spent about two hours in there then made our way home about 3 0'clock.
I think we all enjoyed ourselves.

Field trip to Restormel Castle - Thursday 26th August 2021

On an almost perfect summer day seven members of the group met at Restormel Castle. The distant haze meant that  we concentrated on the castle and it's near environs, rather than the sweeping views across the valley and town. Half the group went inside the curtain wall while the others walked around the moot. After an ice cream break the groups swopped over with some venturing onto the wooded slopes. Thanks to Marion for co-ordinating the morning.

Field trip to Lerryn - Thursday 22nd July 2021

Mad dogs, Cornishmen and photographers go out in a heatwave apparently! A great turnout for our Field Trip to Lerryn saw 12 members brave the heat and enjoy a leisurely stroll along both banks of the river. We were pleased to welcome four new members to the event - Katrina, Jill, Erica and Clive. We then retired to Jenny E's lovely shady garden for a much needed cooldown and picnic lunch. Thanks to Marion for organising and Jenny E for the shade!

Field trip to Pencarrow House Gardens - Thursday 24th June 2021

Our focus on locations closer to home continues to offer all sorts of opportunities. Many of us had not visited Pencarrow for several years so it was a delight to see just how much work has been done and what a fabulous place it is for a walk with plenty of photo opportunities to suit all tastes. To top it all off six of us met up for a relaxed lunch at the Peacock Cafe where we all enjoyed a long chat and some of us enjoyed cake!

Field trip - Thursday 27th May 2021

Yet again we were blessed with bright day for our Field Trip this month. Eleven of us met at Trevose Lighthouse and Jasmina briefed us on the many options which were available depending on how far anybody wished to walk. Two groups set off in different directions, either towards Booby's Bay and Constantine or towards Mother Ivey's Bay. Both groups were accompanied by the sound of skylarks and stonechats - always useful to have a birdwatcher or two with you!!7

We met up back at the lighthouse for lunch and enjoyed a lovely catch up on each other's news face to face rather than on screen! After lunch each group set off in the other direction for more exploration.  A selection of images from the day can be seen below.

Field trip - Thursday 22nd April 2021

Exactly six months to the day since our last Field Trip nine of the group met at Caerhays to enjoy some good company and photography opportunities. Having left home in glorious sunshine we were a little taken aback by the cold easterly wind which greeted us on arrival, but we are a hardy bunch so after the obligatory cup of coffee we set off individually or in small groups to explore the beautiful gardens and grounds. The colours and scents were amazing, and we were soon back in our happy mode of chatting, sharing tips and enjoying each other's company. Lunch and hot drinks were welcome and gave us more opportunity to catch up on each other's news. As you can see from the selection of images below the group's skills have not diminished in lockdown! We were also pleased to welcome our newest member, Chris Hart. Welcome aboard Chris.

Field trip - Thursday 22nd October 2020

Cardinham Woods

We had a wonderful turnout of 11 group members when we visited Cardinham woods. For Covid safety rules we divided into 2 groups , one went along the Ladyvale path whilst the other followed the Callywith circular trail. The damp, mostly dull weather didn't deter us for the walk became a social affair as much as a photographic trip. The Callywith route which my group took slowly ascended through pine forest with edges and clearings of deciduous trees, just beginning to change into their Autumn colours. Like the view from the highest point down a valley another couple of weeks would probably show them at their best. The path was quiet so we had the opportunity to listen to and watch the birds as well as take more close-up shots of bracken, plants and fungi. All in all a most enjoyable morning catching up with friends as well as inspiring each other with many different suggestions for taking that special shot.

Field trip - Thursday 24th September 2020

There were just Steph and myself on the field trip this week so we missed out Park Head and met at the NT cafe, Carnewas at Bedruthan. Coffee first, then out to face the elements which weren't as bad as we first thought they were, dry and even the occasional brightness, but very windy. We walked along to a view point and took a few pictures, then carried on down the steps to another viewing place. We spent 45 minutes there getting battered by the wind, cameras shaking and hands freezing before we called it a day.  We agreed it was a good call, to come out and a thoroughly enjoyable outing.

Field trip - Wednesday 17th June 2020

Colliford Lake

Yes, we managed a socially distanced field trip to Colliford Lake in spite of the weather! Five of your intrepid fellow members enjoyed exploring the shore of Colliford Lake, re-acquainting ourselves with our cameras after a good few weeks. Light at the end of the tunnel perhaps.

February 2020 Field Trip

The photography gods were shining on us once more as we enjoyed beautiful sunshine and dry weather for our February field trip to Lanhydrock Gardens. Eight members enjoyed the colour of the daffodils, magnolias, camelias and even the odd clump of snowdrops which had survived the worst of Storms Ciara and Dennis. We all agreed it was lovely to have the sun on our backs as we tried everything from traditional flower photography to macro to multiple exposures to "contre jour". The group all enjoyed the camaraderie of working together to learn different techniques. Inevitably we also tried out the offerings of the Stable Tea Rooms and enjoyed a good chat over lunch!

Fieldtrip to Davidstow and Roughtor - Jan 2020

A typical January day for our fieldtrip this month but we made the most of the moody conditions and were thrilled to see a brilliant display of murmurations at Roughtor
